Building This Blog with Hugo and Apple's Design Principles

Welcome to my new blog. After running a simple landing page for years, I built a personal site with a blog.

Why now?

I want to write about cloud-native development, Kubernetes, developer tooling, and deep dives into technical problems. A dedicated space for longer-form content gives me the right outlet for that.

The design

This site is built with Hugo and a custom theme inspired by Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines. The focus is on readability, clean typography, and a design that prioritizes content over decoration.

Key design decisions:

  • Inter as the primary typeface, optimized for screens and highly readable at any size
  • An 8px spacing grid for consistent rhythm
  • Dark mode that follows your system preference, with a manual toggle
  • A hero-to-navbar transition on the home page for a smooth browsing experience

What’s next

First posts will cover AI in my engineering workflow and my switch from Windows to Linux.
